Garbed in a simple two-part top and tight jeans that clung to her ample figure, Ryder made her way into East Capitol. Eager to find an angle to make money enough for a gravity training room quickly, Ryder found herself wandering the streets with her mind spread open to opportunity. But opportunity of that magnitude did not come easily, not when she refused to commit large swaths of time every week to a daily grind. Neither was she prepared to delve into more licentious careers despite the profitability a physique like hers represented in such fields. She sought to cultivate strength, to make a habit of defiling her body in that way could only bring harm in the long run. With her mind on wealth, the woman made her way through the city only to find herself at a recruiting station for the Blue Banner World Police Department. The thought did occur to Ryder that such a position would provide opportunities for growth, but the job title put her off. ‘Police’ implies policing the behavior of others, and that’s something Ryder wanted no part of. What others did made no difference to her, so long as it didn’t negatively affect her. Just as she made to turn away, a familiar face in uniform near but not stationed in the booth- whether he was taking a break from manning the booth or here for other reasons she couldn’t tell- caught her eye… “Arti, Arti Barae is that you?” OOC: Artilrian Barae

The Eastern lands were certainly a change of scenery from the north where Artilrian was usually stationed. Rather than being barren and cold, it was a lush part of the planet with a lot of rural farming communities, bamboo forests and two large cities to provide some ties to civilization. It was here in the eastern Capitol that he had been rotated to with the World Police.
As he weaved his way through the streets and people, wearing his navy blue uniform to signal his allegiance and profession, he came across a recruitment station. Seeing as he hadn't had much to do, he figured he could take break in that area. It was refreshing to see others sign up with the police force, to see people who wanted to fight the good fight and make a difference in the world. That was why he was there, money weren't the big thing for him, he was a fighter at heart and the benefits of food and shelter from the BBA was all he really needed.
That was when he heard someone say his name, or rather his nickname. He instinctively looked towards the recruitment station, thinking that one of the soldiers there had recognized him but that was not the case. Instead he caught sight of a strangely familiar face while looking around for the source of the voice. "No way," he said in disbelief before smiling, "Officer Ryder, what're you doing here?"

“Officer?” Ryder chuckled wryly, quite well amused by the shocked smile on Barae's face. “It’s been a year since I’ve had any rank. I figured when your Blue Banner Army took over it was a good time to retire from the military life, try something new.” What Ryder didn’t mention was the sheer strangeness of her choice. Rather than seek out a new career, she chose to dive face first into martial arts. Even then, she didn’t join some sect or seek out an independent mentor but instead retreated to the wilderness to partake in Secluded Meditation and live as an ascetic. “So how are things now that you’re one of the Boys in Blue? How’s the pay? You on duty Arti, or do you have some spare time to catch a drink and some grub with a pal from bootcamp?” OOC: tags- Artilrian Barae

"I suppose you could say that," Artil answered only to sigh as he remembered the whole conflict when the BBA seized control of the planet's government, "I mean, it wasn't like that was anything else to do with the conventional army anymore. So what did you go on to do?" Her next question had him think for a bit. It wasn't that he didn't know, but it just never crossed his mind that he would have to explain it to someone else. Therefore he chose the simple answer, "it's decent, nothing to write home about but we're well paid for the job we do. Not that it really matters to me. As for having some spare time, give me a moment." He quickly reached for his radio and said he had something had come up which he needed to attend. Things seemed to be running themselves anyway and if an emergency broke out he would be on station at a moments notice. "That should settle it, i got some time to spare," he said after the radio went silent, "got any where particular in mind?"

“NOPE” came the quick reply from Ryder when Arti asked if she had a place in mind. “I’ve been settled down in this region, but I don’t come to the city all that frequently. If you don’t know a place then we’re just going to have to find one the old fashioned way. Walk around and then try one blindly.” Casually the woman reached out, attempting to grasp hold of Barstool’s forearm and snug her body up against his arm. Succeed or fail, right after trying she started walking in the general direction of the entertainment district. “As to the question of what I’m doing now… you could say that I’m between careers. I decided to just cast aside all the trappings of society and search for my own path, you know? I don’t know about your upbringing, but my family’s old military, I’m talking dozens of generations. Being a soldier of some kind was chosen for me from the beginning, if that makes sense.” OOC: Tags- Artilrian Barae

"Very well, seems we'll be doing it the old-fashion way then," Artil shrugged in response, "i have just as little, if not less, knowledge of this place than you in terms of recreational places."
As she took him by the forearm and snug up to him Artil tensed up slightly. It made him feel slightly awkward before he regained his composure as they moved towards the entertainment area. He couldn't help but ponder why she was going that. Was she lonely, making an advance or was it just a quirk of hers? No matter, it wasn't too distracting anyway.
"I see, so you had your path chosen for you," he mused as Ryder dove into explaining how things had been prior to joining the army and what she was doing now, it was stark contrast to his own, "i can see why you would want your own life, being able to choose your path. Whatever you end up choosing i just hope you're happy about it. As for me, i had a pretty average upbringing the more i think about it. But getting forced into the army one way or the other? Yeah, i can see why that would sit wrong with you."
Looking around the district didn't help him much, but it wasn't that they were short on choices at least, "personally i would say that we should just go for something light. Can't let it tie you down if something happens."

"Let's just walk a little longer Ray, take in the sights and wait until a signboard really stands out to us" she requested, walking right in step with him even as his arm gently pressed against her chest. Though she played a good game at hiding her true intentions, truth of the matter is there was a very special place she was bringing Barae too... a place she could not afford on her own. "You mentioned an average upbringing, mind telling me a bit about it? What made you choose to enlist in the first place? I can imagine dozens of different careers easier, safer and more profitable than the military." OOC: tags- Artilrian Barae

Artil wasn't really sure what to make of this. He was all for more walking but why she walked with his arm gently pressed against her chest continued to elude him. "Very well, we can keep going for a bit more. No need to rush, this city is extremely law-abiding, heh, might be the calmest location i've ever been stationed at."
As they kept going she inquired more about his upbringing, something he could certainly elaborate on. "Well, back when i was in school, i took a liking to military hardware and weapons by reading about them. That soon expanded to reading about the army in general and the stories were an inspiration for me. I'm also guessing some of the ridicule played a part. You see, the others told me that i should join a martial arts school if i wanted to help protect others. But, of course, i didn't listen to them. I was instead determined to prove them wrong. That was my original desire which lead my to sign up. It then later turned into wanting to help protect this world. But yeah, that's my story." He had a fond smile as he finished his little story. Looking back on it all was kinda fun, especially now that he could see how wrong he had been.

"It sure beats my story..." Ryder mused aloud, reminiscence tinging her voice as she thought back to her strict upbringing according to both classical and modern military standards, followed by two years of wild abandon with little to no regard for her health or reputation. "Let's just say between that intentional education and 'stepping into the shoes I was given' I went through a rebellious phase I'm not exactly proud of. Not ashamed, really, just one of those lessons that didn't have to be learned the hard way." Ryder soon realized 'Ray' didn't seem to be enjoying the way she walked with and adjusted accordingly. Slipping off his arm, she allowed her hand to slide down his forearm until she gently gripped his hand. "If I had the sort of motivation you did, I might have just joined up with the new order when the joining was good. While I might have left the military, my own affinity for gear is as strong as ever. Heck I'm packing right now heh heh. Bet you can't guess where I'm concealing can you? I'll give you one chance to touch my piece, if you pull it off I'll split the bill with you." OOC: any adjustments I make will be made in a manner that you don't need to adjust. "We’ve all had that rebellious phase, haven’t we?" Artil asked with a slight chuckle, "granted, i had mine squashed by a drill sergeant and some strict discipline. But it is good you've learned from it at least."
He noticed that she let go of his arm and instead had a gentle grip on his hand. It made him sighed in relief internally, this he felt a lot more comfortable with. "Sorry about that, it just got awkward for me. Heh, it was a common joke that i’m the most emotional dense person on earth."
Her comment about lacking the drive to join up again made him raise an eyebrow, she seemed like the kind that would pull through and she even had the experience of the old army which might give her a headstart. "Heh, well, i would assume you hadn't lost it," he nodded, "in fact, i would argue that you would still fit right in with BBA. I won't force you however, seems you've had enough of that already. I would, however, encourage you to do so. You were part of the old special forces after all.”
The second part made him blush slightly, doing a inspection for weapons and contraband was nothing new. But when he did it normally, it was part of the job and he had his game-face on. Here, when he was being invited to do it and, well, he was still 28.
“Now, in regards to where you're hiding your gear..." he trailed and took a moment to size her up, putting on his game-face and trying not to linger. After a little bit he started to scratch his chin as he tried to deduce it.
“You’re right, i’m not one for guessing games,” he admitted, “however, if i was to guess, i would wager that you hide it around your chest region. It would keep it close at hand and also keep others from touching due to taboo… and, well, then i suppose we won’t split the bill… because i’m not going to attempt to find it. The way you held my forearm was awkward enough. So without a legit reason to do a full body-search i’ll restrain myself.”
OOC: I appreciate it, Ryder

“You are such a boyscout” Ryder half-chuckled, half-giggled playfully giving Baraea’s hand a firm squeeze as if to emphasize her point. “If you aren’t going to play the game, then I’m not going to reveal the answer.” Just as she teased him for his rather strict behavior, Ryder caught sight of a restaurant that caught her appeal. Tugging him in the direction she wanted, the woman pointed upwards at the sign in question, a turquois wave background behind shimmering pear-white text. “The Jade Tide, let’s give it a shot.” As she led/dragged Barae into the restaurant they were greeted by an elegant raven-haired and silk-skinned waitresses garbed in a red Qipao that clung to her slender figure. “Welcome to the Jade Tide, would you prefer the bar, a standard booth or a private room?” “We’d like a private room.” OOC: tags- Artilrian Barae

"What can i say? I take those opportunities when i can. Considering what else my job can entail, i welcome them with open arms," Artil retorted with a chuckle, briefly glancing at his hand as she squeezed it, "and, to be honest, i am fine with not knowing."
It was then that she seemed to find a place that interested to her. Not that it mattered to him, he was always on board for fine food, but he wasn't adapt at seeking it out. He was the kind of guy to eat what was placed in front of him and make the most of it. "Sure, if you want, i am not going to object," he said as she borderline dragged him after her. She was certainly enthusiastic, he would give her that much.
What he wasn't prepared for was what Ryder then requested in regards to seating. Private room? What was she on about? Surely it had to be a mistake because otherwise this just went from 0 to 60 in the blink of an eye. "Right," was all he replied, not wanting to cause a scene, this was a matter to be discussed in private... okay maybe her choice was a good one after.

“As you wish, honored guests” the young hostess lightly bowed respectfully, tapping a button of some sort on her stand before grabbing two menus and leading the pair through the elegant Jade Tide. Beauty filled the palace style restaurant from the entryway, to the halls, to the dining commons, to the private room this young lady led Ryder and Ray. Jade statues guarded the four corners of the bed-room sized dining chamber. In the middle lay a short table sized for sitting on the floor with one comfortable looking pillow placed at each side. “This time of day I presume you’re here to dine?” The hostess inquired, pausing at the entryway of the room rather than bringing them straight in. “Rayyyyy, did you take me to some kind of love hotel on our first date?!?” With a playful expression on her face Ryder used her free hand to gently thump on Barae’s chest, acting as if she were upset with ‘his’ choice of establishment and his ‘clear’ dirty intentions. Bowing slightly to their hostess, Ryder cleared her throat before responding “Yes, we’re here to eat.” Gently elbowing Barstool in the gut, she added “to eat food.” The young hostess covered her mouth with her jade-white hand as she giggled before stepping into the private dining room and placing a menu at the two opposite seats perpendicular to the door. “Please make your selections. When you’ve finished you need only ring the bell in the center of the table and I will personally come to take your order.” “Wait up, who said we needed time to make our choices?” Ryder hastily interjected, releasing Ray’s hand and somehow gliding both hastily and gracefully to a seat whilst grabbing her menu. “I’ll take a platter of each of the following- Millennium Egg Salad, Fried Dragon Meat, Pulled Pork, Dino Daube Glauce, Phoenix Wings, Lamb Stew and sauted Unicorn Mushrooms. Oh, and I’d like some Deep Sea Shrimp Salad.” “What about you honey?” OOC: Sorry about the slow post, this Google Voice to Text takes some getting used to.

The restaurant was beautifully constructed and furnished, it would be wrong to say otherwise, Artil concluded as they were lead to their private room by the hostess. Granted as he looked around he was feeling his wallet scream. If they weren't going to split the bill then he was going to be living off canned food for a while. But seeing as he was this deep in the rabbit-hole already he saw little reason to bail out at this point. Though, as they were gestured inside, something told he might end up regretting not bailing out now while he had the chance.
He was right, it didn't take long before he started to regret it. Now she was making it look like he was the one with idea, as if this was an actual date. It wasn't that he was opposed to the idea, but all things considered it seemed a bit quick. It had been years since they last met and even spoke and now she made it look like a date? Indeed, things were going fast. In the back of his mind he was hoping that it was something she doing to tease him, it had to be.
"Um... well, i would say so, yes," he answered, being slightly more stammering now that they were in a closed room, "i will just have something light. Some noodles and meat should suffice."
He normally wanted to take some time to see what they had, but it seemed that he wouldn't have that option either. Although hearing Ryder's order made his wallet scream once again.
"I have more than a few questions for you when we are alone, miss," he muttered under his breath to her as he handed in his menu card.

“Noodles and meat… understood” the hostess smiled gently in response to Barae’s request, making a few notes on her notepad. “Will that be all for the two of you? Can I interest you in anything to drink?” Ryder didn’t hesitate to continue. “We’d like a large carafe of Jade Tide to go with our meal. Also, I’d like a bowl of steamed Mantou.” “Is that everything?” “Yup, that should do it.” “I shall go turn this in then, if you need anything else there is a call button in the center of your table, hit it and someone will come as soon as they are able to.” Finished taking their order, the young lady pivoted on her heel and departed the room- gently closing the door behind her. “You said you had some questions Ray? Fire away.” OOC: Tags- Artilrian Barae
