"Ah, gentlemen. Thank you so much for coming doen here on such short notice." 'Cipher 24' smiled as he looked over at the people assembled before him. The top brass of the BBA. He hadn't called in any of the members of KAOS. Bringing people with power to rival his own would be problematic. It was easier to manipulate those who were way, way below you.
"Any reason you decided to call us all down here?" Major Vermilion asked, looking around. He didn't appreciate being pulled away from his work for no reason. The android gave a small smile, making a mental note to do something about his attitude. "Why yes Major, yes there is." The android slowly rose to his feet, "I have something very important to tell you all." He began to walk around the meeting table. "For the longest time, we of the BBA have been ensuring the protection of this planet, putting everything, even our own lives on the line to ensure our peace. Many of the people nodded, many remembering the late General Chartreuse. Cipher smiled briefly before his expression fell. "And yet, what do we have to show for it? Our greatest accomplishments aren't even acknowledged, swept under the rug." "That's not true!" Staff Officer Fuchsia protested, "Nobody can deny we protected the Earth from the Saiyan Invasion!"
Cipher clicked his tongue as he shook his head. "No my dear, Vipoi protected the earth. Reikiko protected the earth. The Kami protected the earth. The Z Fighters protected the earth. But what about the countless soldiers who bravely died fighting the Oozaru? What about General Chartreuse? How many people know of them? How many people care?" There was a light murmur amongst those gathered. It wasn't exactly the easiest argument to counter. Cipher looked over them "You people, the soldiers and scientists of the BBA. You're the true army. And yet, all you are is dressing for those above you, just to look tough, but ultimately ignored. I ask you, is that the least bit fair? No, it's not! You deserve to have your names in the history books alongside the Premier, not just to be a footnote at best!"
"We have to do something!"
"I know..."
"You know what he's planning! You know what he'll do if he wins them over!"
"I know! But it's not easy. He's pushing me down every time I try to take back control. I'm not strong enough to force him out."
"Maybe we don't need to force him out. Just hold him down until we can get help."
"We...?"
"Yes. You're not alone my love."
"Well then, what do you suggest we do to remedy this?" Colonel Umber asked, looking at the pale android skeptically as he paced around the room, "The Mazuko crisis is being well handled by the premier as we speak." Cipher nodded. "Indeed it is. As such, he is off world, leaving the protection of Earth to us. Well, I saw we simply do more than just babysit the planet. I saw we make it even better for when he returns. Show the people we're more than just a pint-sized android.
Captain Butterscotch eyed him curiously. "And what do you propose to do?" Cipher grinned as he turned towards the militant woman, "Well, I suggest that we-"
Suddenly, Cipher stopped mid sentence. His eyes widened as as something was going on inside his mind. His teeth clenched, his body tensing up as a pained groan escaped from him. The android suddenly fell to his knees, clutching his head. The men and women at the table rose to their feet, suddenly worried and concerned for him. "Cipher!" Dr Slouch spoke up, walking towards him, "What's going on!?" As he approached, Cipher suddenly held out an arm in front of him. "S-Stay back!" the android groaned, trying to pull himself to his feet, his body trembling as his hands gripped at his head painfully. The scientist took a step back, now visibly scared of what was happening. He could see the android's eyes flashing, going from purple to red and back again. This was starting to remind him of what had happened to Vipoi years ago.
Inside the android's mind a war was raging. Multiple minds battling it out for dominance, wracking the android in pain. Cipher's mind struggled for control against the invasive presence, who was doing everything it could to remain in charge. Finally, it was simply proved too much for them. Letting out a howl in pain, Cipher suddenly collapsed to the floor.
The BBA Officers stood there in shock for a moment before Fuchsia finally snapped out of it. "Men! Get him down to the lab, immediately!"
"So, let me get this straight," Major Vermilion spoke up, "You found this ancient tomb, got possessed by some evil spirit, and said evil spirit was talking to us moments ago before you regained control?"
Cipher gave a nod. "Yes. That's exactly what happened." After he had blacked out, they had brought him down to the lab to see what had happened. When the android came to, they wasted no time in questioning him on what happened. Meanwhile, Slouch was looking at the readings on the monitor. "There's definitely something in there," he said, looking at the screen, "A foreign presence sitting in his systems. Though it seems like it's being kept in check." Cipher nodded. "Yes. Porsalynne and I managed to suppress it." The officers blinked in confusion at Cipher's words, but Slouch understood it. "Ah, the bond." Captain Butterscotch quirked an eyebrow. "Bond?" Slouch blinked before realizing the others didn't know what that meant. "Oh, Cipher and Porsalynne are mentally linked. They can basically sense eachothers' presence, emotions, and such." Fuchsia quirked a smile. "Sounds almost romantic." Vermilion rolled his eyes. "Sappy enough to make me throw up."
Slouch shrugged. "Throw up all you want, but it definitely seems to have done the trick. I believe Cipher and Porsalynne's consciousnesses were able to effectively 'gang up' on this spirit and keep it suppressed. Though it seems the spirit's still in there." The group nodded before Vermilion spoke up, "So, what do we do now?" Cipher blinked and stared at Vermilion like he had asked the dumbest question ever. "I think it's obvious. Get this damn thing out of me!" Cipher's expression was grim, "I don't know how long we can keep him down,
and trust me. You DON'T want him to take control." "How bad are we talking here?" "Think Realigner Red with the cunning of Vermilion and the tactical mind of Umber." The group immediately paled, except for Vermilion and Umber who were wondering why they were used as examples.
"That's a little easier said than done," Slouch said ruefully, "We're scientists, no exorcists. If this were a malignant A.I. or a virus, that's one thing. But we haven't had any real dealings in regards to the supernatural. At least not enough to develop a means to combat them."
Cipher let out a small scowl. Slouch was right. It wasn't like they could press a button and get rid of this thing. "What about the Konatsians?" Everyone turned to the door, where Porsalynne stood. How long had she been there? "The Konatsians are experts in magic. If there's anyone that can get rid of this thing, it's them." A hopeful smile spread on his face. Konats, of course! He knew people on that planet. He could seek out their help. Captain Butterscotch thought for a moment. "But what to tell the Premier? It's not like we can say "I know he was told to remain here, but he got possessed and now needs to go off planet for an exorcism"." "Hmm, I might have something." Umber murmured, "Not too long ago the Mazuko seized control of a piece of Arcosian territory. We can say that while he's getting this problem cleared up, he's also ensuring the planet doesn't fall into their hands, as well as strengthening relations between the planet and the BBA."
The group nodded in agreement. It was definitely a more positive spin on things. "Then it's settled then. Cipher, you and Porsalynne are heading to Konats to get this whole issue settled and to improve relations. If anyone asks, say it was an order from us." Cipher couldn't help but smile at all this. It was good to see he still had friends in the BBA.
"I have a question though," Fichsia spoke up, "What exactly was this spirit trying to make us do before you took control back." Cipher looked at the woman, "He was going to convince you guys to use the BBA to try and start an intergalactic empire for him, then toss you all aside once he had a big enough power base." Vermilion snorted. "Like we would have fallen for a ploy like that." Cipher gave him a flat look. "Really? The thought of being remembered as founders of the 'Blue Banner Empire" wasn't at all tempting to you guys?" The group immediately fell quiet, not really wanting to give an honest answer as they thought about it.
"Yeah, thought so."
It didn't take long for preparations to be made. Charlene had been picked up and briefed on the situation (when she was told Cipher was possessed, the girl immediately asked if his head did a 360 turn, or if he projectile vomited. It was determined she was not to watch anymore horror films), and the family were ready to head for Konats. Making sure everything was in order, the Pale Rider soon took to the skies, heading into orbit in the direction of the magic laden planet.
