The Serpent Returns
Jormungandr, the violet-scaled serpent, silently prowled the streets of West Capitol as the city’s residents began winding down their daily activities. The stars glittered in the ebon sky above, with one in particular gleaming a bright, bloody red. The ophidian fiend glanced up at the star, taking a deep breath as she drank in the power it gave her, comforted by its presence. Though she would never admit, she was nervous. She hadn’t been on Vegeta for very long, but her trip there had lasted long enough that she was no longer accustomed to the places on Earth where she had spent the majority of her time.
She shook her head, wondering where her confidence had gone. She used to be an arrogant, imperious demoness who looked down upon all around her. Nowadays, she was more friendly, and lacked that conviction in her own might that had once straightened and her back and imbued her words with undeniable authority. She sighed. Since being summoned by the late Kadabra, she had encountered warriors far beyond her capabilities, individuals who could crush her without effort. She had been shown just how insignificant she was in the grand scheme of things. But it was not as unpleasant a realization as she once would have found it. She didn’t need to be the strongest any more. She just needed to be strong enough to protect Capper.
Capper… The name evoked many conflicting emotions in Jormungandr. Meeting that diminutive engineer had been the turning point for her, she realized now. Before she encountered him, she had been unwavering in her determination to prove herself the strongest and cruelest of all demons. She had felt no remorse for the atrocities she committed, had been consumed by malice and rage.
But Capper had changed all that. The somewhat eccentric saiyan had almost immediately won her over, and had gradually changed her attitude towards the world around her. Now, his safety was often her only concern.
The demoness realized that she had been standing as still as a statue on the sidewalk for several minutes, and discarded her musings, her feet making little noise as she wandered aimlessly through the western metropolis, gradually drawing closer to its center.
