Day One: The Arrival
Big Train's journey to the Turtle School had certainly been an interesting one. And definitely unexpected to him. He had originally left his quaint village in the west, to journey to find the Turtle Hermit in the south. His childhood dream was always to be a student of the Turtle School and become a legend like its founder, Ro'Shi.
Little did he know that his journey to the school would be intercepted by another, after getting swept up by Beryl's Zen School, the Galactic Patrol and the awesome power Beryl wielded. The same power that would spur Big Train's desire to train harder. Sending him to the far off deserts and frozen north. Even getting in some rare gravity training thanks to the old saiyan sheriff in the town of Luna.
He was swept up in so many grand adventures and meet so many powerful martial artists. Never in a million years did he think that he would ever fight against the likes of ninjas, samurai, monsters and aliens. But he had done all of this and more in his quest to find the Turtle Hermit. It was all a little overwhelming as he reflected back on it all.
He was living the dream he envisioned as an orphan. It was admittedly very unrealistic at the time, a kid like himself... overweight and bashful. But here he was, now it was the final leg of his inaugural journey as he stood out front of the Turtle School. He had met the Hermit very briefly in his initial travels before he was knocked out or swept away on the back of a Dragon. He wondered if the man remembered him.
Ultimately it wouldn't matter, he would convince the hermit to train him at all costs! Big Train took confident strides up to the front door of the Turtle Dojo. Slowly, he would extend his arm towards the wooden door. Taking a deep breath before he attempted knocking. But just as Big Train was about to knock when a voice calls out, "Came to learn from the turtle hermit?"
. Big Train jumped startled and spun around in a dash, "Wh-wha?!". Looking left to right repeatedly, his vision eventually focused on a small figure. In Big Train's view was a bent old being barely propped up by a cane. His skin was a dull green color and his body was surrounded by a shell. It was old turtle zoanthrope!
"Y-yeah, I did" Big Train would nod. "Hmm..." the old turtle let out. "You cannot train under the turtle hermit". "WHAT?!" Big Train shouted, "Why not???". "You aren't ready yet. You don't even know the basics of ki manipulation. No, no... you're not nearly ready for his training". Big Train was offended by this and barked out, "How? Argh! What do you know anyway?!". Big Train could sense his power level, it was below 1! "Me? What would I know...? Oh, I was the master to a martial arts school quite some time ago. I've long been retired" the old turtle said calmly with a toothless smile. Big Train thought about this... what were the chances that this old turtle zoan use to be a master martial artist? He squinted his eyes at the turtle man suspiciously, "I'm not sure if I believe you...". "Well there's only one way to prove it. And that's to train you. You could use it anyway" the old man snickered slightly.
The literal turtle man poked and prodded Big Train with his cane shepherding him to the nearby beach before Big Train could form an audible response. "Now... follow me to my home" the old turtle jumped up towards the sea. But instead of submerging, a crescent of water rises up to him and he lands on top of it. Standing there on the wave without sinking, he rides the conjured wave forward like a surfer. Big Train looks on in amazement. The old wizard looks back at him, "Oh? Don't want to get wet? Hmm... ok".
He snaps his fingers and a few moments a puff of cloud descends from the skies with great speed. It was a bright red, like a cloud in front of the setting sun. The red puff ball halted in front of Big Train who apprehensively mounted it. The two take off, the turtle zoan leading him to a small secluded island. There's a small home on the island in a minor state of disrepair, its appearance as worn as the old turtle zoan's. The turtle man hopped off the wave and landed gracefully on the beach. Big Train's dismount is a bit less graceful but none the less, he lands next to the old master.
*Ahem!* the old zoan cleared his throat. "Now then, you can simply call me Alderman. And what should I call you, young man?" Alderman asked with a grin. "I'm Big Train" he responded, still a bit baffled by everything that was going down. "I am your master as of right now. What I say goes." the zoan said sternly. Continuing he said, "Now I'm a busy turtle. Hah hah. So you have three days to learn my school's techniques. That's all the time I can give you. Each day we will focus on a different technique".
Big Train nodded but then shook his head, "Wait wait wait, how do I know that you're even the real deal?". Alderman laughed, "Step back, sonny". When Big Train did, Alderman widened his stance and turned to the side, cupping his hands up above his head. "Energy..." and then suddenly Alderman's power level started to sky rocket. Just as blue energy fills his palms. "BUSTER!" the old turtle thrust his arms forward flinging all of the blue energy he had gathered out towards the ocean. The giant wave of energy literally separated the ocean.
All that power pumped forward for a while before curving upwards and flying off into space. The two sides of the sea clashed back together and soon enough, it was peaceful again. Including Alderman's power level, which plummeted back down to where it was prior to his display. Big Train just stared in disbelief, "Ok... You're the real deal...". Let the training commence.
"I want to learn that move!" Big Train shouted out childishly. "No. We will start with the easiest. The Lightning Strike. You must feel your body's natural electric magnetic field. Harness it, mixing it with your energy and then UNLEASH it outwards". Blankly, Big Train looked at Alderman, "Feel my body's electric maganetic field? How the hell do I do that?". Alderman just snickered, "You'll understand it when you understand". So started Big Train's long day of failure. Most of the day was filled with a whole lot of nothing besides a constipated look on Big Train's face.
At one point Big Train gets so frustrated that his silvery aura bursts to life and streaks of electricity shoot across his body. Big Train doesn't notice this but Alderman does. "Hmm... trial through fire, it seems" Alderman thinks. Without any warning Alderman send a beam of electricity careening straight for Big Train who just manages to dodge to the side. "What the hell?!" he calls out. "Quicker than you look, aye? I won't miss again!" a second, larger beam of yellow electricity beams heads straight towards Big Train. This time it's just too fast for him. Big Train is encased in the yellow electricity. The beam of electricity actually starts to lift Big Train into the air.
Trapped inside of a rising aura of pain, something inside of Big Train snaps. No longer concerned about the mental barriers in place, Big Train slowly raises his arms. The aura wrapped around him starts to turn black. The black slowly mixing into and eventually overcoming the yellow. The aura around him shrinks and shrinks until it's contained only in his two outstretched hands. It then slithers out and through the beam connecting Alderman and Big Train. They're caught in a deadlock for just a moment before Alderman effortlessly overpowers him, sending the stream back up to Big Train. Briefly shocking him one last time before it's over and Big Train collapses in the sand. "Good, get your rest. Tomorrow is the Energy Buster" Alderman says as he shuffles off.
Day Two: Turtle Waves
As the sun rose again in the morning, Alderman sauntered out to the beach to discover Big Train already out of the beach. "Energy... BUSTER!" Big Train flung his arms forward with great speed and determination! However as he did, a small cloud of smoke poof'd from the center of his palm. With a dejected look, Big Train hung his head. It looks like he's been at it for a while. Alderman shook his head, "You can't force it, you aren't prepared yet". Big Train slouched, approaching the old sensei. "Meditation... That is what you need. Sit.".
Alderman forced his old body to the ground, sitting in the sand with his legs crossed. He signaled for Big Train to do the same next to him. Doing as Alderman suggested, he sat next to the sensei. Copying what Alderman did, Big Train assumed the same exact position and then closed his eyes. Only a few moments passed but it felt like an eternity, "How long does this take?". "SHHH!" Alderman hissed back.
"Concentrate, feel the energy, feel your ki. Breath in and out, deep and relaxed". Big Train tried to relax. "Gather your energy into your center, pull it slowly towards your chest" he paused to allow Big Train some time to do this. "Now push it down, down through your chakra points, down and out of your body, into the ground around you. You see, you are connected to this world, in all living things lie chi. You've been manipulation it and interacting with it your whole life. It is deeply connected to you. It's not because you can't manipulate it, it is you fears and anxiety that are holding you back. You must RELEASE them! Let them go...".
It was as if Alderman's words put a spell on Big Train. He felt like he was connected to the world, he could feel the energy all around and within him. "Now rise slowly... Gather energy the same way you just did. Do it however you feel comfortable, don't try to copy others. Take what they give you and make it your own...". Big Train rose, his eyes hardly open, as if he was still in a trance. He stood at the edge of the beach, looking out into the ocean. His aura faintly started to glow. But it wasn't a big inferno, it was simply a white outline surrounding him.
He widened his stance and brought his hands above his head. They were cupped in the same manner that the old turtle did, but this wasn't his Energy Buster. It was slightly different. A smooth red ball of ki formed in his cupped hands, it shined bright. Then he thrusted it forward and an intense red beam flew out and split the ocean exactly like Alderman did just the other day. And then all of a sudden Big Train's senses came rushing back to him. The beam ended and the ocean returned the normal. Looking down at his hands in disbelief, he finally did it. He finally was able to conjure his ki. He turned to Alderman. He was speechless but his eyes said 'thank you'. Alderman just smiled and walked away, "Keep practicing it! Tomorrow is the hardest. The Death Saucer".
Day Three: The Final Day
"Now, you need to harness your energy in the same way you did before. But this time you need to shape it, construct it into a sharp point that spans in a circle". Big Train starts to gather his energy, taking a wide stance. "Now lift your arm up and gather it above you!" Big Train lifted his arm above his head a tried to follow the old turtle's advice. He gather ki up through his body, up his arm and out of his palm.
A wavering disk shape started to form. It wavered and wobbled from a ball to a disk in repeating cycles before it dissipated entirely. "Try again!" Alderman called out. Big Train reset himself and tried again. The cycle started again above his raised palm. He just couldn't form a disk of energy. He just wasn't proficient enough at manipulation ki. But then Alderman's words repeated in his head "Make it your own".
Big Train closed his eyes and let the ki flow naturally. Lo and behold, a disk formed completely, floating above his hand. Though it wasn't a complete disk, it was missing the entire center! It was more of a ring, or a donut shape. "Now throw it! Throw it at the tree there!" Alderman pointed to the nearby palm tree with his cane. "Ok! HNGH!" he grunted as he brought his arm forward, throwing the disk towards the tree.
Despite it being such a seemingly small amount of ki, it felt like he was trying to throw a ton of bricks. It rushed to the tree and made impact! However it collided and bounced off of the tree, flying over Aldermans house, taking out his chimney in the process. *Pratfall!* the two looked on in comical amazement. "Well... it's a start, heh heh" Alderman finally said with a smile.
And with that, Big Train's training was complete. The two spent the final night together, sharing a nice meal and good conversation. Alderman had quickly become a mentor to the young Big Train. When the next morning came, Alderman saw Big Train off on his journey. "You can keep that nimbus, son. Whenever you need him just whistle and he should come, try it out! Go on!". The whistle from Big Train echoed out into the morning sky.
Sure enough, the red cotton candy cloud descending down to meet the large Big Train. Master and apprentice shared one last pleasant moment, "Continue your journey young Big Train. Keep honing your skills and never stop chasing your dreams. You're stronger than you even can imagine right now, your passion will carry you to your goals". "Thanks for everything Master Alderman!" the young teen picked up the old turtle man in a giant hug. And with that, Big Train and Arco made their leave. This time Big Train didn't need to ride on Arco's back, he was flying with him on his new nimbus. The three performing stunts in the sky as they took off towards their next adventure!
